Winifred Nelson
March 17, 1924 — February 13, 2025
Winifred B. Nelson, 100, of Elgin, IL (formerly Chicago, IL) passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025. She was born on March 17, 1924, in Chicago, IL to her parents John and Anna Krause. She was the beloved wife of the late Chester, until their divorce. They remained the best of friends and cherished the family they built. They remained such good friends that after many years apart they moved back in together, living on separate floors of the house. He cooked her dinners and handled the gardening while she worked. When Chester became ill, she was there to take care of him. As kids and grandchildren of them, this warmed our hearts they could be so close and supportive of each other and their families.
She was the loving mother to her daughter Karen (Harding) and son Robert Nelson. Proud grandmother to Cherie (Mike) Fagan, Denise (Paul) Driscoll and Patrick (Kelly) Harding. Great grandmother to Cassandra (Scott), Ivanko, Sean (Leah) Fagan, Zachary (Rebekah), Driscoll, Courtney (Ryan) Sammons, Christopher, Caitlin, Carly and Collin Harding. A very proud Great, Great grandmother to Connor and Hudson. Dear sister of Bob Krause (Sarah) and the late Lavern, Dorthy, Delores, John and Loretta.
She was the matriarch of five generations.
Winifred was a bookkeeper (ran the office) for Clybourn Metal Polishing located in Chicago for over 30 years. She enjoyed crafting, garage sales and watching TV, especially comedy’s. She loved Carol Burnett, old movies and some shows that shocked the family (Cheaters). She loved spending time with the family. She loved animals and had many cherished pets during her life. She truly enjoyed watching the birds, squirrels and deer that would come to her window at The Vines and eat from the feeders. She loved the different holidays, but Christmas was her favorite.
Wynn is dearly missed by her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Vines Senior Home in Elgin so others may enjoy the loving care provided as Wynn experienced. P.S. They are always looking for bird food as all rooms have bird feeders outside
