William Carlson

December 31, 1969 — June 15, 2025

William J. "Bill" Carlson 95 of Streamwood passed peacefully on 6-15-2025.

William  is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years Caroline (Barbeau).

Two children Robert  and Cathy (Douglas) Solway

7 grandchildren Megan (Bryan) Rizza, Kristen Walters, Erin Walters, Jennifer (Brandon) Acker, Christopher, Andrew and George Carlson

And blessed with 5 great grandchildren Emma, Hanna, Jayce, Nora and Scotti Sue.

Bill lived his 95 years to the fullest.  He had careers that started at age 23 with his service  in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He continued his love for aviation when he returned home working for United Airlines for over 40 years.  During his career with United he received many awards one of them being the prestigious Charles W. Taylor Master Mechanic Award which is the highest honor the FAA bestows upon those in the aircraft maintenance career field.

After retiring from the airlines he worked for the FAA as an inspector for 11 years.

Bill lived in Streamwood, IL for 62 years where he and Caroline raised their family and proudly served on the Streamwood Village Board for 32 years as an elected Trustee.  He wanted to be part of keeping Streamwood a good place to raise a family, work and do business.  He encouraged new businesses to come to town, was part of various youth programs and was a strong advocate for the police and fire departments.  Bill retired from the board in 2021 at the end of his 8th term turning his seat over to the next generation.

Bill was not all work.   He enjoyed vacationing with his family in Hawaii or quietly relaxing with Caroline at their house in Necedah, Wisconsin simply enjoying nature.  He loved playing golf and eagerly anticipated each season playing many rounds with friends and participating in many charity and village golf outings.   His family was everything, taking the most pride in his 67 year marriage to the love of his life and were always together.   You could always find Bill  in the stands at his grandkids volleyball games, track meets or cheerleading  being their biggest fan.  He rarely missed games or events they participated in.  As the family grew up he loved seeing them all create their own lives and families and excel in their chosen careers,  Passing down his strong work ethic,  integrity and to be proud of  a job well done.

His presence will be greatly missed but the millions of memories will live on though his family and all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers we ask that instead you make a donation in William's name to the JourneyCare CareCenter Hospice in Barrington, IL, www.journeycare.org/donate/, who cared for Bill during his final days..
