William V. Burger, age 78, passed on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 in Winfield, Illinois. He was born in Cumberland, Maryland on December 10, 1939. His family moved to Davis, West Virginia when he was about three years old. To him, this was almost heaven and he loved everything about it including all his childhood friends. He always considered it to be his real home.
He married Betty Ann Poshedley on June 20, 1960. They had four children: William Jr. (wife, Renee), Timothy Christian (wife, Anna), Deborah Jean (husband, Michael), and Daniel Craig (wife, Wendy). William’s grandchildren are: Bradley, Justin, Austin, Brandon, Jenna and Andrew. He is also survived by two brothers: Robert Nevin (wife, Anne) and Kermit (wife, Barbara Jo) Burger as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He retired from Westinghouse Electric Corporation after 30 years of service when he was 52 years old, working in many different positions, including Accounting and Branch Manager. Then he went to work for the Village of Glendale Heights as Finance Director and retired again many years later.
He made friends wherever he went, easily starting conversations with complete strangers. No matter who asked for his help, William was there to assist them. He never said no to anyone. Organizations he belonged to are too numerous to mention. He loved being active and volunteered whenever he was needed. And most of all, he loved his family. William, you are in our thoughts and prayers and you will be missed by all. Rest in peace William.
