Wayne Paul Tillman

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Paul Tillman. He was born on August 24, 1946. He died on April 17, 2026.
Wayne was well known for his laid back, slow-paced personality. His ability to remain cool and calm in every situation, was admired by all who knew him. You would think that he had been born with a wrench in his hand and cars and airplanes in his soul. His younger sisters claim that they hardly saw him because he was always out in the garage pulling things apart and putting them back together again. That never really changed much throughout his life. He devoted 50 years to working as an aircraft mechanic for TWA, which was eventually acquired by American Airlines. That didn’t deter him from finding plenty of time to tinker around with cars in his garage. He was always fixing someone’s car, helping them find another car to buy or hanging out at a car show. Wayne’s favorite cars were the classics. His insurance agent must have loved him since he kept adding cars to his collection. His inventory hadn’t dropped below three cars at a time in over 4 decades. He left Kenosha, Wisconsin when he started working at O’hare airport in Chicago. He married Martha Wadkins on January 9, 1971. They had one daughter (Lorrie) and two grandsons (Riley and Jaden). They filled his heart with love and joy. He said that someday they would be the legacy that he would be proud to leave in this world. So, here we are now, in this world that was a much better place with him in it. Even though he set a good example, to carry on in my Dad’s shadow, we have some very big shoes to fill. So Dad, we feel so blessed to have been yours. You will always be in our hearts, pushing us to love hard and spread kindness generously in this world.
Wayne is survived by his loving daughter, Lorrie Mahoney and son-in-law, Jeff Mahoney. Along with two grandsons, Riley and Jaden Mahoney, who brought so much pride, love and laughs to his heart. He loved being one of six kids. Sadly, his sisters, Theresa and Charlene have pre deceased him. He is survived by Art Tillman, Marie Patty, and Janet Cantwell, along with a big flock of brothers and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who he loved and cherished. Wayne is also pre deceased by his wife, Martha Tillman, his mother, Angeline Tillman and his father, Charles Tillman.
We have planned two days to celebrate Wayne’s life. A wake will be held September 19, 2026 from 1PM - 6PM. The next morning on September 20 th, visitation will be held at 10AM. Service will start at 11AM with a luncheon to follow. These services will take place at the Countryside Funeral Home, 333 South Roselle Rd., Roselle, where friends and family are invited to share their fond memories and pay their respects to Wayne. Any pictures or stories that you would like to share on this website or on his memorial board that will be displayed at Countryside Funeral Home are encouraged. Pictures will be displayed and everyone’s stories will be mentioned at his memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, Wayne’s family respectfully requests that donations be made to Angel Flight-Central or St Jude’s children’s hospital. These are two of the causes that Wayne loved supporting. He was touched by the amazing things that these charities did to support families.
