Virginia "Virgie" Zmyslony, 100, of Chicago died September 10, 2019. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents Anthony Joseph and Catherine (nee Frankowski) Zmyslony; her sisters Irene (Vilho) Kaukola, Florence A. (Rex S.) Covington and Adrienne D. Zmyslony. She is survived by her nieces and nephews Bill (Jane) Kaukola, Mary Kay (Ken) Olkkonen, Rita (John) Knoop, Eileen Kaukola, Jim (the late Joy) Kaukola, Eugene (Joan) Kaukola, Regina (John) Hawkley, Donna (Dave) Wilson, and Rex C. (Muriel) Covington; many great nieces, nephews, great great nieces and nephews.

Virginia was born and raised in Chicago with her three sisters: Irene Lucille, Florence and Adrienne. Virginia was the second oldest. After high school Virginia took a job working for the government at the US Treasury Department. It was a good job, paying grade 5 salary which was considered a lot back then. She worked there for 5 years. Virginia then took a job with the US Department of Agriculture at the Chicago Board of Trade building. There, she monitored to make sure the brokers were doing honest work. She worked there for 31 years. Since the pay was only a grade 2 salary, Virginia had to find additional work. There was a travel agency in the Board of Trade building and she convinced the agency to hire her on after hours to do extra paperwork that didn't get completed during the day. In her spare time, Virginia just enjoyed keeping busy, mostly by working. She also did some volunteering and traveling. Her favorite place she visited was Monaco. Her favorite color was shades of purple, ranging from light lavender to deep purple. Virginia loved all flowers, and all four season. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she enjoyed all kinds of foods, but her favorite beer was Heineken and favorite cocktail was a Sweet Rob Roy (with 3 cherries). Virginia began playing the violin at age 7 and continued into adulthood, becoming an accomplished violinist. Virginia was very religious and had a strong Catholic faith.

She graduated from Roosevelt High School, then attended Chicago University and Northwestern University for coursework. After Virginia retired from the Department of Agriculture she worked at Marriot Vacation Club for 5 years, Nippon Express for 1 year and her final job was at White Tower Travel for 3 years. She always liked to keep busy and if she had it her way would have never stopped working if she could help it. Virginia loved traveling. Being a travel agent and making custom travel packages for clients was her passion!
