Virginia Latondress

May 4, 1922 — July 7, 2010

Virginia M. Latondress (nee Larson), 88, of Bartlett, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at St. Alexius Hospital in Hoffman Estates of complications from a fall. Born May 4, 1922 in Rockford, she was the daughter of Frank and Edith (nee Broquist) Larson. Virginia was an honors student at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, graduating in 1944 with a major in English and a minor Spanish. Virginia met her husband, Edward, at the University and married after Ed’s tour of duty in World War 2. Virginia was an avid reader, bridge player, gourmet cook, baker, and traveler. She especially enjoyed a trip to Sweden, the birthplace of many of her relatives, and many trips to United States national parks with her husband and adult daughters over a period of 10 years. Virginia enjoyed volunteering, especially at her church, the First United Methodist in Elgin, where she was often the chairman of pantry for the Mistletoe Mart and at the Riverside Hospital of Kankakee Thrift Shop. Virginia was also involved with the Women’s League of Kankakee where she served as an officer. While living in Bartlett, she assisted with many fundraisers for Cancer and Alzheimer’s and was active in several bridge clubs. Virginia enjoyed golfing, but her true passion was her family. She very much enjoyed living in proximity to her children and grandchildren, attending their music concerts and athletic events over many years. Survivors include husband of 64 years Edward of Bartlett; daughters Christine (Joseph) Poziemski of Elgin and Mary (Paul) Hartsuch of Geneva; grandchildren Joseph and John Poziemski and Rachel and Mark Hartsuch. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Margaret Fabrique. A memorial visitation will Wednesday, July 14, 2010 from 1p.m. until time of memorial service 2p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 216 E. Highland Ave, Elgin. Arrangements and cremation was handled by the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, Bartlett.
