Vincent J. Horton, "Mr. Vince", 83, of Bartlett, Illinois, passed into Eternal Life on December 19, 2022. He was born in Calmar, Iowa to the late Dr. Vincent and Genevieve (nee Ryan) Horton on May 22, 1939. He attended Calmar High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. After graduating in 1957, he went on to his beloved Loras College where he made many wonderful memories and friends. He earned his degree in Economics and upon graduation found himself signing up for the United States Air Force in 1961. He served 4 years and was stationed at Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya for some time. Once his service to our country commenced, he went on to work at Pillsbury and was relocated to St. Louis, Missouri where he met his wife of 55 years, Gail Pierson. They were transferred to the Chicago suburbs where they raised their 3 girls and called home. Vince proudly worked at Safeco Insurance for 37 years in Surety bonds where he made so many connections with his mentors, mentees, agents, and everyone who met him. He travelled for work all around the country and saved the matchbooks to show for it. He retired in 2004 to spend time with his family and growing grandchildren. If you ever were lucky enough to have a conversation with Vince, you knew he was genuine, kind, respectful, funny, and proud of his family. He was an avid golfer, a devout Catholic, a music cantor for many years at church, a member of his men’s group at church, active in a local prostate cancer support group for many years, and always ready to start a story with “get a load of this...”. Loving husband of Gail (nee Pierson); beloved father of Erin (Fred) Weppner, Catherine (Dan) Killeen, and Meghan (Michael) Burton; cherished grandfather of Jackson, Camden (Paige), Sydney, Rachel, and Grayson; dear brother of Robert (Emily) Horton, the late Mary Lu (the late Ken) Johnson, the late Ruth (the late John) Lorenz, the late Anne (the late Bert) Lorenz, and the late Helen (Randy ) Russett; fond uncle of many adored nieces and nephews; best friend to his loyal dog, Emme. We are grateful for his Artis Senior Living family who took care of him with love and compassion for over 2 years. Services and burial will be private. A public celebration of Vince's life will be scheduled for a later date where all are welcome.
