Vernon Rasmussen, a beloved father, papa, great-papa, and cherished community member, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3rd, 2026, at the age of 93. Vernon was born on Thursday, August 25th, 1932, in Antioch, Illinois, and was a long-time resident of Itasca, IL.
Vernon dedicated his life to his family and community. He was a skilled cement mason, recognized for his hard work and commitment to his craft. In addition to his professional achievements, Vernon found joy and camaraderie in his love for bowling. Remarkably, he continued to bowl in a league well into his 90s, showcasing his spirited endurance and zest for life.
Above all, Vernon was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving daughter Kim (Thomas) Witkowski, cherished granddaughter Julie (Pierce LaHaye) Witkowski, and adored great-grandsons Evan and Logan. He leaves behind his siblings Shirley Nordenberg and Edwin Rasmussen. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, William and Agnes Rasmussen, his treasured first wife Gaylene and second wife Nancy, his son Randy, and siblings Audrey, Ginny, Charlotte, Wayne, and Gordon.
A man of deep faith, Vernon's life will be honored with services that celebrate his remarkable journey. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 from 3:00 - 7:00 pm at Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 950 S. Bartlett Rd. Bartlett, IL 60103. Prayers will be held on Thursday, April 9th, 2026, at 9:20 am at the Funeral Home, Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am at St. Peter Damian, located at 131 South Crest Ave., Bartlett, IL 60103. He will be laid to rest at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine, IL.
Vernon's legacy is one of love, dedication, and resilience, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. His family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported them through this time. Vernon will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by his family and friends.
