Ulysses Umanos

Ulysses was born on January 16, 1947, in Balaoan, La Union, Philippines to the late Philip Labrador Umanos and Pacita Obille Valdez. Uly graduated from San Fernando Elementary School and La Union School of Arts and Trade. At age 11, he attended the Boy Scout 10th World Jamboree at Mt. Makiling, Laguna. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1967 and lived in Chicago, IL. He worked for Sargent & Lundy; an engineering firm located in Chicago for over 45 years. He started at the bottom, as a mail room clerk and moved to become a senior draftsman and retired as a nuclear structural engineer.

Uly married Soledad Javier from Santo Tomas, Batangas 1969. The couple was blessed with a son (Uly Jr.) and a daughter, Marisol. Uly and Sol joined the Northwest Filipino Baptist Church (NFBC) in Elk Grove Village, IL in 1989. Uly was an active member of NFBC and regularly attended Sunday worship service and home bible studies. Uly was a member of the Building Committee that was instrumental in the acquisition of the church building at Nerge Street, Elk Grove Village. Uly was gifted with a beautiful voice and was mechanically inclined. He loved golf, bowling, and cars.

Our Lord took Uly, January 13, 2022. He is survived by his wife Soledad, his son Ulysses Jr. (Danielle) and his daughter Marisol; his grandchildren Jonathan, Christian, Jeremy, and Eliot; his sisters Velia, Grace, and Deborah; his brothers Ishamar, Nathaniel and John.

Uly will be missed dearly but his spirit will remain in the hearts of many. He is now with the Lord in heaven where there is no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.

No doubt, we will see Uly in heaven again!


Memorial Visitation Saturday, January 22, 4:00pm until time of memorial service 7:30pm at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 333 S. Roselle Road (1/2 mile South of Irving Park Road) Roselle. Cremation was private at Countryside Crematory.
