Timothy Michael Hannon (88) of Carol Stream, Illinois passed away peacefully on January 15th after a short illness. Tim was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 24, 1935, the son of John and Anne Hannon. He lived in the Austin and Humboldt Park neighborhoods until 1948 when the family moved to Evanston. Tim attended St. Nicholas Grammar School and St. George High School where he graduated in 1953. He attended Marquette University for two years where he learned to play bridge and not much else. Like Archie Bunker, Tim's uncle Mike got him his first full-time job working as a map clerk for a prominent property and casualty insurance group and thus began a career that would span five decades and entail twelve address changes. Along the way, Tim earned an insurance designation proving he could study. A noted wordsmith, his mantra was "we never guess, we always look it up". He was also a former president of the Freeport Toastmaster Club and the Illinois 1752 Club. Tim served honorably in the US Army and was a lifetime 4th-degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Freeport Council.
Tim married Kathleen Dolan on October 20th, 1962 in Rockford, Illinois. Their marriage was blessed with three children, daughters Ann (Chris) Traczek and Amy (Eric) Slagter and son Daniel (Annette) Hannon, and five grandchildren Erin, Cara (Michael), Nate, Fiona and Casey. Tim was a long-time member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Wayne, IL., where over the years, he served as a lector and Eucharistic Minister. Tim was an avid supporter of all Chicago sports teams (at some point in his life). He also enjoyed golfing, tennis and bowling. His bowling team in Freeport even won the city tournament in 1977.
Tim discovered cruising in 1990 and he and Kathleen enjoyed cruising all throughout the Caribbean. Tim was often referred to as the life of the party and was never happier than when he was grilling or making old fashioneds for guests in his home. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren do what they enjoyed, whether playing basketball or volleyball or playing the trumpet. Tim leaves behind his beloved wife Kathleen, and all those who loved him.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church in Wayne, IL. on Saturday, January 20th at 11:00 am. An hour of visitation will precede the Mass beginning at 10:00 am.
