Thomas (Tom) J. Stoesser died Friday, April 28,2017 at Lexington of Bloomingdale at the age of 93.His wife of 65years, Bernadette “Bernie” (nee Murphy) was at his side.


They were residents of Roselle for 61 years. He is survived by 2 sisters, Mary Rose Donahue and Florence Schultz and his children: Mel, Mary (Mary Ann Gocha), James (Cathy Zoltek), Margaret (Olaf) Trytten, Martin (Susan Charlow), Jean and William (Tracie Lamar). He was a loving grandfather to Amber (Brian) Lesniewicz, Michael, Ann, Carolyn Stoesser of Roselle and Lili, Amelia, Megan Stoesser of Arlington Heights and Grace Trytten, Great-grandfather to Bennet (Ben) Lesniewicz .


Born in Chicago to Leo and Joan (Cammisar) Stoesser, Tom studied through high school and some college years at the Franciscan Seminary in Mayslake, Il. He left and became a union carpenter (local 558) He married Bernadette in Feb. 1952 and built their home in Roselle himself . He was a dedicated and devoted husband and father. He loved his wife and inspired self-sufficiency in his children. He was a Democratic committeeman and was thrilled to be a volunteer at the 1996 Convention in Chicago. He was generous with his time and spent years as an election judge. He promoted fairness, thrift and equal treatment for everyone.
Tom spent 35 years as a master carpenter with Pepper Construction and also as foreman and superintendent. One of the highlights was working on the altar in Grant Park when Pope John Paul ii came to Chicago in 1979.
Tom also loved to travel and after retirement spend winters in Naples, Florida.
As a former Franciscan he was always involved in helping the poor and homeless volunteering for PADS, Meals on Wheels, Catholic Worker and others.


Memorial visitation Thursday 3:00pm to 9:00pm at The Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 333 South Roselle Rd. (1/2 mile south of Irving Park Rd.), Roselle. Visitation continuing Friday 10:00am until time of Mass 10:30am at St. Walter Catholic Church, 130 West Maple, Roselle. Cremation was private at The Countryside Crematory.
