Thomas J. Neihengen, 77, of Bartlett died April 1, 2025. Thomas was the beloved husband of Elaine (nee Banach); loving father of Nick (Lisa) and Sarah (Shawn); proud grandfather of Alex, Tucker, Hudson and Callie; dear brother of Raymond (Kathy), and Brother-in-law to Maryann Sokolowski (Steve).
Thomas was a teacher who tried to always find the best way for students to learn. He always tried to reach a deeper level of connection with students beyond "official" duties. His crowning achievement as an educator was he had an American Literature student from high school who demonstrated years later his appreciation after graduation via a binder. He never forgot and was still receptive to the emotions that can be elicited by powerful literature. The author's words could bring tears.
Some of the activities Thomas enjoyed were teaching adult photography classes, head usher, a lector at St. Peter Damian Church, an assistant softball and soccer coach. Thomas held various offices such as Catholic Library Association Northern Illinois Chapter, and AARP Driver Safety Instructor.
