Thaddeus Kowalik

July 29, 1943 — December 21, 2019

Thaddeus “Ted” Alfred Kowalik, passed away, surrounded by family, on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at the age of 76 in Elk Grove Village, IL. He was born in Brody-Duze, Poland, the son of Thaddeus Kowalik, Alfreda Paszt (born Paszt) and Edward Paszt. He married Barbara Ann Roman, of Chicago, IL, on February 16, 1962.
Ted retired from Ameritech (Illinois Bell) in April 1999. During his tenure with Ameritech, he began as a coin collector in Chicago and concluded as the Area Manager of Operations. His circle of coworkers still meet for lunch on a regular basis. Ted was a Christian who loved spending time with his family and wealth of friends in the community. He was a passionate photographer and graciously shared his talent by taking pictures and sharing them with everyone. Sometimes, unfortunately, this kept him behind the camera instead of in front of it. Ted was also a prominent member of the senior group that made The Schaumburg Barn-Senior Center their second home. It was there that he provided an endless amount of support to his friends as he lead many of the social activities with his dear friend, Marina Lvovich. Ted was an active member for over 15 years with the EAA Warbirds Squadron 4, as well as, the board’s secretary for the last several years. This association brought him to Oshkosh, WI for many years as the official photographer for the squadron at the Oshkosh EEA Annual AirVenture, a position he took great pride in. Ted’s many other talents included being a stamp and coin collector, the family tech support, a constant bargain shopper, and the provider of many a bad dad joke.
Ted is survived by his children: Kathleen Nelson, Ted Kowalik Jr., Jeanette (Tim) Lowrance, Trisha Sowatzke, and brother, Ed (Mary) Paszt. Beloved Granddad to Anastasia, Madeline and Robert Nelson; Kaleb and Jakob Lowrance; Benjamin, Natalie and Sophia Sowatzke. In addition to many dear cousins, aunts and uncles.
Along with his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and sister Diane Bachman (Paszt)
