Tara Steurer

April 7, 1971 — February 28, 2017

Tara D. Steurer, née Black, 45, died at her home in South Elgin, IL on February 28, 2017, after a strong and courageous, year-long battle with liver cancer. She was born in West Monroe, LA on April 7, 1971, to Lonnie and Bertha (Samford) Black. She and her parents later moved to Ingram, TX where she met her husband, Craig, in 1988; they were married on August 5, 1995.

Tara was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and friend. She was never concerned with what she was doing, as long as she was with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Craig, and their three children, Jacquelyn, Brynne and Wyatt; brothers Thomas (Bonnie), John, and Byron (Julie); sister Lydia (Robert) Lawrence; and 13 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother in 2003 and her father in 2008.

During her working career, Tara was both an OB technician and an ER technician at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elgin, IL. She touched the lives of many patients and their families and built many strong friendships with co-workers. She loved babies and dreamed of becoming an OB nurse, but postponed that dream to be an amazing mother to her children. In the last couple years she began preparing for nursing school. She was accepted into Elgin Community College’s Nursing Program for the fall of 2016 but withdrew to concentrate on her health.

Tara will be remembered by her family and friends for her beautiful smile, loving spirit, warm embraces, kindness, and strength. She will also be remembered by her children, and hundreds of other children and their parents, as a coach in youth sports for basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball. In addition to her dedication to coaching, Tara also worked for the Village of South Elgin in multiple capacities, including her most favorite position as a preschool teacher.

Visitation Sunday, March 5, 2:00p.m. - 8:00p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 95 S. Gilbert Street (at State Street) South Elgin. Funeral Monday 11:00a.m. Following services cremation will take place privately at Countryside Crematory.
