Bartlett

Sylvester “Syl” J. Rajterowski, of Bartlett, born on Sunday, July 11th, 1943, embraced his eternal rest on Wednesday, May 6th, 2026.

Sylvester was the beloved husband of Karen Rajterowski (nee Stangone), with whom he celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family, including their son Michael (Lynette) Rajterowski, daughters Renee (Ryan) Heitman and Kristen (Gabriel) Rowland, and their treasured grandchildren Jacob, Katelyn, Blake, Brooke, Clara, and Casso. Sylvester is also survived by his brothers Taddeus (LaVerne), John, and Anthony “Tony” (Carol), along with several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Helen, and his brothers Alfred and Richard, who surely greeted him with open arms.

Sylvester's life was a tapestry of vibrant interests and talents. An avid golfer, he spent many sunny afternoons perfecting his game. He also enjoyed playing racquetball, going to concerts in the park and spending time with family and friends. Affectionately known as Pops, his greatest pleasure was spending time with his grandchildren, attending their various activities, performances, and sporting events as well as leading them on whimsical adventures to garage sales. Sylvester found joy in driving around town in his 1995 Mercedes, often accompanied by the soothing voice of a book on tape. A card enthusiast, he enjoyed the friendly competition behind every hand. A lifelong Tool Engineering Manager, he delighted in crafting and fixing with his mechanical mind.

Sylvester's life was a testament to kindness, curiosity, and the joys of simple pleasures. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.

A celebration of life and memorial mass are pending for July, details of which will be shared with family and friends at a later date. The arrangements are being handled by Countryside Funeral Homes & Crematory in Bartlett.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sylvester's honor to either Northwestern Memorial Foundation or Rush University Medical Center.

Sylvester’s legacy of love, laughter, and gentle wisdom will linger in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
