Sue Blank
November 16, 1946 — November 23, 2023
Margaret Sue Blank departed this life on November 23
rd
, 2023. She was born Margaret Sue Lankford, on November 16
th
, 1946 in Pontiac, Michigan to Clyda Fern (Watt) and Herschel Lankford, who both preceded her in death.
Sue loved to bake for her family. Cookies, pies and cakes were a staple in her kitchen… but nothing topped her Texas sheet-cake. Members of her family often (tongue in cheek) referred to her as “Betty Crocker”. When she was a waitress at the Roll’n Donut, Sue was known for her great sense of humor and friendly disposition. Nobody knew as many jokes as her and even fewer people could tell one as well as she did. That sense of humor also endeared people to her when she worked as a school bus driver for school district U-46 in Elgin. A job that she held for 15 years before she retired in 2014.
Sue is survived by her husband of 56 years Norton E. Blank Jr. whom she first met in late 1966. The first AFL-NFL Championship, also known as the Super Bowl, was played on January 15
th
, 1967. Seven days later, on Jan 22
nd
, 1967, Sue and Norton were married. This made it very easy to remember how many years they were married. Sue and Norton had two children, Janine Fern (Williamson) of Elgin, and Erik Norton Blank of McHenry.
Along with her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene, and sisters, Lois, Betty, Joyce, Carol, Janet and Donna. In addition to her husband Norton, her children Janine (Bill) and Erik (Jennifer), Sue is survived by two sisters, Barbara (DeWitt) and Joan (Lankford), 5 grandchildren Nolan, Colin, Taylor, Carter and Emma as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews.
Although she was tough as nails when she needed to be, which was a trait shared by all the “Lankford girls”, Sue was a warm, caring, devoted and generous wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. She was, and will continue to be loved and remembered for the wonderfully important role she played in the lives of her family. Rest in heaven Suzy Margaret.
