Steven K. Weber

Steven Keith Weber, born December 5, 1955, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. Steven was the devoted husband of Joanne, and the cherished son of Dorothy and the late Leo Weber.

He was the beloved brother of Sue (Ralph) Deranek, Matt Weber, Keith (Cathy) Weber and Jim (Sandy) Weber, and the fond nephew of Mary Katherine Weber.

Steven was a proud father to Dawn (Steven) McIntyre, Mark (Tabitha) Weber, and the late Timothy Weber. He was a loving Papa to Abigail, Grace, and Lucas McIntyre, and affectionately known as Grandpa Webs to Phoebe, and Step‑Grandpa Webs to Patrick and Anthony.

He was a caring stepfather to Phillip Rogers, Nathan (Ivonna) Rogers, and Donald (Christine) Weber, and a devoted step‑grandfather to Alexandra, Desmond, David, and Lena.

Steven’s life was defined by family, creativity, kindness, joy and the deep affection he held for those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Steven cherished the time he spent with his children, especially when working on projects together. Whether completing tasks inside the house, building a play tower in the yard, assisting with school assignments, or constructing school projects such as the bridge that earned second place for weight capacity, he approached every effort with enthusiasm and care. He also built a miniature city for Hot Wheels cars, creating a space where imagination and learning came together.

Vacations were always carefully planned to be both enjoyable and educational. Each two‑week adventure reflected his intention to create meaningful experiences. Steven connected with each of his children in ways unique to them, sharing sports with his sons and a love of Germany, beanie babies, and the medical field with his daughter. He took great pride in watching his children grow into adulthood and build families of their own.

Steven was an avid photographer who consistently went the extra mile to capture a distinctive image. He preserved memories of family, friends, holidays, weddings, and vacations with a dedication that reflected how deeply he valued the moments and people in his life.

During his time with Canon, Steven managed the events department and the “Bring Your Child to Work Day” program with creativity and excitement. He organized activities such as having children create gingerbread centerpieces for the annual holiday party, and he gladly dressed as Santa for children’s events, bringing joy and laughter wherever he went.

As a husband to Joanne, Steven took great care in planning experiences they both enjoyed, especially those centered around music and entertainment. He arranged outings to see classic bands and cover bands, attended productions of The Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables at the Chicago Theatre, explored new restaurants, and prepared romantic dinners at home. Each experience was thoughtful and meaningful.

He enjoyed dressing up for themed events, including the 1940s hangar dance and the Hollywood Christmas party. For his final Christmas, he embraced the role of the Grinch, bringing humor and delight to the celebration.

Steven dedicated his life to serving both his country and his community. He began his service proudly in the United States Air Force, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award, and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1980 with the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSgt).

He continued his commitment to helping others through his work in the fire service. Steven served with the South Elgin Fire Department as a paid‑on‑call Firefighter/EMT from 1992 to 2009, and previously with the Hanover Park Fire Department for seven years. Known for his willingness to help anyone in need, Steven’s steady presence and dedication left a lasting impact on the departments and communities he served.

Within his volunteer service with the Civil Air Patrol, Steven was a beloved and influential leader. He loved CAP deeply and stands as a giant in his contributions to the Illinois Wing.

At the Command level, Steven served first as the Wing Inspector General, and later as the Illinois Wing Command NCO. From the beginning, he forged a strong and meaningful relationship with Wing leadership. As IG, he was the vigilant guardian of compliance, ensuring the Illinois Wing upheld the highest standards. His professionalism, integrity, and unwavering dedication quickly earned trust and admiration.

As a former military Noncommissioned Officer, Steven embodied the Command NCO role with enthusiasm, vision, and deep respect for CAP’s mission. His first meeting with Wing Command, an impromptu three‑to‑four‑hour conversation, established a strong and effective Commander‑to‑Command NCO partnership. His proposals were thoughtful, his leadership steady, and his understanding of the Command NCO role became a model for others to emulate.

Steven will be remembered for his quiet strength, his “volunteer professional” leadership, and his steadfast commitment to serving others.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at the Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 95 S Gilbert St (at State St), South Elgin, IL. Burial will take place on Friday, October 2, 2026 at 10:00am at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W Hoff Rd, Elwood, IL. Those who wish to attend are encouraged to arrive no later than 9:45am. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Illinois Wing Civil Air Patrol, https://ilwg.cap.gov/ , would be appreciated.
