Stephanie Mulligan

January 3, 1947 — April 19, 2025

Stephanie Glenn Mulligan, wife of Edward Mulligan for 56 years and a beloved mother, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 19, 2025. Her husband and three sons were at her side when she was called home to the Lord. In her last days she was surrounded by family and was blessed to have received the support of dear friends throughout her prolonged illness.

Stephanie was born on January 3, 1947 in New York City, New York, to Phyllis Whitmore and Dr. Albert Basil Glenn. She was the second of five children growing up in Sharon, Connecticut.

She and Ed met at Chicago O’Hare Airport while waiting to catch flights on a “space available” basis using college student discount tickets. Serendipitously, their flights were

full and they were both “bumped off.” Ed struck up a conversation with the blond haired, blue-eyed beauty, and it sparked a lifelong friendship and love affair.

They married on July 19, 1969, and then moved to Arizona, where Ed entered flight training to become a U.S. Air Force jet pilot. They made wonderful friends in every place they lived. Three children (“the boys” and “three suns”) and five duty stations later, they settled in Naperville, Illinois.

Stephanie’s calling was raising and caring for “the boys” but she was also loved as a teacher’s aide and worked as an office administrator for several dental practices. She had a special love of music and enjoyed singing in a local Catholic Church choir where she celebrated her faith and built lasting friendships in the community. All of this could be encapsulated by her passion for cooking, as she sang and danced around the kitchen cooking gourmet meals for her friends and family.

She had a captivating and contagious smile and kind words for everyone around her. To that end, she spent hours with her ink stamp collection, carefully crafting and painting cards with personal notes to celebrate every occasion, or to offer words of encouragement and love to family and friends.

Ed and Stephanie’s marriage included many wonderful family vacations to the Outer Banks of NC. She loved the beach and spent as much time as possible by the ocean, all the while spending time with, and spoiling, the grandchildren she adored so much.

Stephanie leaves behind her devoted husband; three sons Ty (married to Katja), Michael (married to Angela), and Jason (married to Lindsay), ten grandchildren Conor (married to Emily), Brinna, Trevor, Alyssa, Ryan, Colin, Nathan, Peyton, Brendan, Matthew; two brothers Edward and Gary and two sisters Candace and Lynette. Innumerable friends, cousins, and extended family members will miss her immensely.

The visitation will be held from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, April 25, at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 95 S. Gilbert St. (at State St.), South Elgin, IL. Family and friends will meet on Saturday, April 26, at Saint Thomas More Catholic Church in Elgin, IL for Mass at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing in her memory to CurePSP.org or consider simply “paying it forward” with an act of kindness toward another, as she would do on a regular basis. She knew how far an encouraging word and a warm smile could travel, and it would bring us great comfort to know her legacy of kindness, good will, and wonderful humor will endure.
