Sr. Dorothy Monikowski (formerly known as Sr. Barbara), SSJ-TOSF, died on November 16, 2024. She was 81 years old. Sr. Dorothy was born in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Genevieve (nee Naruszewicz) and Frank Monikwski. Sr. Dorothy made final vows with the Sisters of St. Joseph-TOSF on August 10, 1968. She spent many years teaching in various grade schools in Chicago. She was elected to Provincial Counsil on two occasions.
Sr. Dorothy got advanced degrees in Administration and Organization Development. She became Associate Director of Planning for the Archdiocese of Chicago. She became an Organization Consultant and Facilitator helping many religious congregations throughout the U.S. She served as an elementary school teacher and principal in the Chicago Archdiocese and South Bend, Indiana Diocese. Sr. Dorothy also worked for the Chicago Archdiocesan School Office and in the Chicago Archdiocesan Office for Planning and Research.
Sr. Dorothy was grounded in the Franciscan charism to go and rebuild the church. She ministered as a consultant and facilitator to numerous religious congregations of women and men in the United States and Brazil, the Franciscan Federation and the national Vocational Association, faculties of schools and higher education, parish staff and personnel in various dioceses. She designed and administered materials and processes for leadership and group development, planning and reconfiguration processes and group reconciliation experiences. As well as change and transition strategies.
Visitation Monday November 25, 9:30 am until the time of Mass 10:30am at the Sacred Heart Chapel at the Oak of Bartlett 825 Carillon Drive, Bartlett. Interment St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.
