Sherrie Alice Hughes (nee Struthers), 77, of Roselle, died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 4.

Sherrie was born and grew up in Madison, Wis., and was a 1959 graduate of Madison East High School. As a teen, she would often help her father at his business, Acme Refrigeration. In the 1980s, she worked for Enesco Gifts, Itasca, and in the 1990s and 2000s, for Kathy’s Hallmark and Chris’ Hallmark, Schaumburg.

She was an active member of a monthly bridge group that has met for more than 40 years. She loved plants and her garden, and was an active member of the Northern Illinois Hosta Society and the Hoffman Estates Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Andrew “Red” Struthers and Alice Caroline Struthers, and her husband of 40 years, Alan Douglas Hughes. She is survived by her sister, Pat (Ronald) Miller of Stoughton, Wis,; two daughters, Heather (Jeff) Shintaku of Schaumburg and Haley (David) Overbeek of Bloomingdale; and three grandsons: Christopher and Mitchell Shintaku, and Xander Overbeek. She is also survived by her partner of eight years, Tony Kwiatkowski.
