Sheila K. Spinner died Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. While she had fought cancer for 3½years, Sheila ultimately won the battle by passing peacefully in her sleep. She was born December 3, 1946, in Peoria to Lester and Margaret (Hobbs) Cross. Survivors include Al, her loving husband of 45 years, daughters Jenni (Rebecca) and Sara, dogs Shamrock and Annie, cats Gracie and Kayla, Harry the canary, turtle Speedy, parakeet Pete, sister Judy Eeton and brother Steve Arnold. She was preceded in death by her father Lester, mother Margaret and stepfather Richard. Sheila graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1970 with a degree in Early Childhood Development. While raising her children, she worked in several retail, office administration and sales support positions until her retirement. Sheila was a member of St. Matthew United Church of Christ in Wheaton, and she loved the 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs, the Green Bay Packers, skydiving, chatting with friends on Facebook and donating her time to charities, including the Girl Scouts, blood drives, cancer support groups, homeless shelters, building housing for the needy in Mississippi, and more. In honoring her wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Instead, the family will hold a party in her honor sometime in January; please contact Al for details. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to make a kind gesture in her honor --- donate to your favorite charity, do a good deed for stranger, fight cancer, and tell those who matter to you that you love them. In her words, “Cherish the Day”.
