Sharon J. Petrus, age 84, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, at White Oaks Memory Care in South Elgin, IL. Sharon was born in West Allis, WI, the daughter of Darwin and Mildred (Brower) Koch. Sharon was a graduate of West Allis Central High School, Class of 1957. She married her high school sweetheart, Larry Petrus, and they recently celebrated their 65
th
wedding anniversary.
Sharon was the eldest daughter of 13 siblings (9 daughters and 4 sons). As a child, she enjoyed visiting her Koch grandparents farm in Campbellsport, WI, and helping care for her siblings. During high school, she sang in the choir and worked on a truck farm during the summers. She met her husband, Larry, at the Paradise Theatre and they married in 1958. While raising her 3 children, she loved reading and baking cakes. She worked in customer service for various furniture companies and after retiring, moved back to West Allis to care for her mother in the family home. Sharon and Larry left West Allis for a second retirement in West Melbourne, Florida, so they could be closer to her siblings. They enjoyed many pool parties and celebrations together in sunny Florida. Sharon loved being a “Nana” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very happy to host the holidays or just make pancakes for them.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband, Larry; her parents, Darwin and Millie; her son, Tedd Petrus; grandson, Eric Bergren; her brothers Duane (Phyllis) Koch and Dean Koch. She is survived by her son, John Petrus; her daughter, Laurel (Dan) Bergren and Daughter-in-Law, Marva Petrus; her grandchildren, Rachel (George) Kriss, Kevin (Alex) Petrus, Jason Petrus, Melissa Petrus, Daniel Petrus, Jessica (Justin) Larsen, Jake (Alex) Bergren and Jordan Bergren; her seven great-grandchildren; her siblings; Sandra (David) Dvorak, Enid DeCamera, Suzanne Bolskar, Barbara (Marv) Lemke, Karen Kazlauskas, Patricia (Joel) Weiss, Brenda (Ted) Peters, Brian (Rita) Koch, Cindy Fries, Scott (JoEllen) Koch; and many nieces and nephews. Memorial donations to The Alzheimer’s Association would be greatly appreciated. Our family takes comfort in knowing that she will be reunited with her husband, Larry, and son, Tedd. No funeral service is planned at this time.
