Sarah Lucido

February 24, 1924 — December 6, 2014

Visitation for Sarah R. Lucido will be held Friday, December 12, 2014, 10:00am until time of service 12 noon at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 1640 Greenmeadows Blvd. (at Barrington Rd) Streamwood/Schaumburg. Entombment Memory Gardens.

Sarah Lucido was born on February 24, 1924, the only child of George and Josephine Baratta. She grew up in Chicago and worked as an addressograph operator at Marshall Fields as a single girl. She was introduced to a friend’s cousin named Kelly Lucido. They fell in love and were married on October 4, 1947. Their first son, Larry, was born on May 20, 1950. Their second son, Ron, was born on May 30, 1953, the same birthday as Sarah’s mom, and later the same birthday as Sarah’s first grandchild, a fact in which she always took great pride. They raised their family in the Chicagoland area until moving to downstate Carthage, Illinois, in 1974.

Kelly and Sarah retired to Sun City, Arizona, in 1984. While in Sun City, they thoroughly enjoyed retired life – playing games, living on a golf course, and eating out for the early-bird dinner! They also enjoyed being grandparents to their six grandchildren.

After Kelly developed some health problems, Kelly and Sarah moved in with Ron and Pat in April of 2001. At this point both began to realize that eternity was closer than ever before. After hearing the Gospel – the good news that Jesus died for their sins – they realized the need to have a personal relationship with Christ and made the decision to accept Jesus as their personal Saviour. They were both later baptized to let others know of their decision and continued to grow in their faith. We rejoice in the fact that Sarah placed her trust in Christ alone and we look forward to being reunited with her again one day. Sarah faithfully cared for Kelly until his passing in October of 2004.

Sarah continued living with Ron and Pat and remained very active. She regularly attended Caleb’s Kin, the senior ministry at Bethel. She was world-famous for her personalized cards that she adorned with glitter, stickers, and stamps. Her weekly trips to the beauty salon were a must because Sarah always had an eye for fashion (who else could pull off those diamond-encrusted glasses?!). Even though Sarah did not enjoy the Chicagoland weather (of which she frequently reminded us), she did enjoy playing games with family and friends, and she loved being able to see her grandchildren get married and have children of their own.

Sarah died suddenly on December 6, 2014. She will always be remembered fondly by her children, Larry and Marge Lucido and Ron and Pat Lucido, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Phil and Becky (Lucido) Gomez (Savannah, Andrew, Sierrah), Matt and Juliana Lucido (Madison - who arrived the day after Sarah’s passing), Jeff and Ashley Lucido (Leah, Halle Grace), Scott and Jennie Lucido, Matt and Jillian (Lucido) Hafeli (Josephine - who shared her name with Sarah’s mom), and Nathaniel Lucido (Brayden).

The family would like to thank everyone who made Sarah’s time in Illinois pleasant by visiting her, calling her, and most of all playing games with her.
