Ruthanne (Boswell) Janis (1952-2009) Ruthanne Boswell Janis, a Hoffman Estates/Schaumburg area resident for 25 years, passed away at age 57 on Thursday, November 26, 2009 at St. Alexius Hospital following a courageous fight against breast cancer. Her children, Linzie, Christopher, and Matthew Janis were by her side. Ruthanne Boswell was born April 24, 1952 to Ruth E. Hamilton and William Boswell (both deceased) in St. Louis, Missouri. She grew up in Alton, Illinois. Ruthanne is survived by her brothers and sisters Duane, Dale, Jim, Jack, Ronald, Suzy Boswell, Jeanie Crown, and her step mother Carolyn Boswell. Ruthanne attended Western Illinois University and Illinois State University where she met Michael C. Janis of Northbrook, IL. The couple married on June 1, 1974. Michael and Ruthanne welcomed their first child, Linzie in 1979, followed by Christopher in 1981, and Matthew in 1985. The couple divorced in 2000, both parents remained devoted to their children. In December 2005 Ruthanne was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. Her positive attitude and determination helped her through her battles with the disease. Ruthanne devoted her life to hard work and helping others. Even while she was ill she continued to provide care to elderly friends in her apartment building. She relied on the help of her family and old friends like Kathy and Buzz Burt, who were always there to encourage and support her. She also felt blessed by the patience and understanding of coworkers during her illness. Ruthanne’s greatest joy came from the constant love, attention, and support of her children, who gave her life purpose. She profoundly appreciated the support of her family. Her children wish to thank everyone who supported Ruthanne throughout her life's journey. According to her wishes, Ruthanne will be cremated at the Countryside Funeral Home in Bartlett. A joyful service to celebrate the life of Ruthanne Janis will be held Monday, December 7, 2009 from 12p until 3:00 pm at The Stonegate, 2401 West Higgins Road in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
