Visitation for Ruth Harmening Giles, 97, of Elgin, but a long-time resident of Bartlett, will be Saturday May 3, 1:00p.m. until the time of service 3:00p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 950 South Bartlett Road (at Stearns Road) Bartlett. Burial Monday 10:00a.m. in Bartlett Cemetery. Born May 4, 1916 in Chicago, Mrs. Giles died April 30, 2014 at her residence. She was the daughter of William F. and Ella Harmening (nee Ahlgrim).
She was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Bartlett, and the Women’s Guild. Always active in the Bartlett community she was a member of the Bartlett Garden Club, Golden Agers, Leisure Club, and past president of the Bartlett Women’s Club. She was also a Girl Scout leader and an organizer of the nursery school in Bartlett and the Bartlett Library.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Everett Giles, her parents, and stepmother Elsie Harmening (nee Fritz). She is survived by her children Ray (Carolyn) Giles of Dallas and Marilyn (John) Ziegler of Elgin. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Immanuel United Church of Christ 415 W. North Avenue Bartlett, IL 60103.
