Roy E Johnson Jr., 83, of Streamwood Illinois went home to be with his Lord on Aug 2nd, 2018 after battling the after effects from Melanoma treatment. Roy was a gifted scholar and athlete and a graduate of Kankakee High School in 1953 where he was a member of the championship basketball team, starred as the football quarterback and was named Mr. Touchdown USA. He went on to graduate from Olivet Nazarene University with a degree in Education. Roy received his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from the University of Illinois and continued to pursue his Doctorate Degree while attending the University and raising his family. Roy was dedicated to the cause of education and started his career as a science teacher, became a superintendent of schools and then spent more than 20 years as principal of Douglas MacArthur grade school in Hoffman Estates, Illinois where he retired at age 55. Roy was not the kind of individual who was ready for retirement or old age, and took a position as salesman for A&A Paving Contractors where he continued to work full time until just prior to his passing where he had a banner year in sales. Roy devoted his heart and life to the work of the church and for his savior Jesus Christ. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church while living in Kankakee. Roy has participated in and served the Church wherever he has resided, and has been a member of Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington since the mid 1980’s. Roy spent years in service with Campus Crusade for Christ and resided for a period in the 1990’s in Moscow Russia in service to the mission. Roy and his wife Marianne support many mission efforts around the world and have sustaining relationships with many missionaries. Roy is now a member of the most high church of Heaven! Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Vivian Johnson, his sister Roberta Kay (Johnson) Morton, his brother Roger Johnson and his son Eric Johnson. He is survived by his wife Marianne (Stewig) Johnson, his daughters Laurie (Steven) Sward and Brigitte (Mike) Dregalla, his six grandchildren, Alysson Senica, Mark Sward, Justin Derkson, Jared Derkson, Lindsey Henrickson, and his eight great grandchildren. Funeral 3:00p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church, 780 Bartlett Rd, Streamwood. Following service cremation will be private at the Countryside Crematory.
