Roxanne Slaten

January 4, 1952 — August 5, 2024

Roxanne Slaten, age 72, of Hampshire, passed peacefully on August 5 th , 2024 with her beloved husband Dale by her side. Roxanne was a devoted wife, friend, aunt and sister. She and her husband were best friends, equal partners in business and in marriage. She considered their 52 years of marriage her greatest achievement. Roxanne was also known for her love of all animals, but her heart was with the horses. She was an avid horsewoman and their paddock was never empty for long. There was nothing she enjoyed more than jumping in the car with Dale for a day trip and perhaps ending up in another state at a horse auction. Many a time, there were close calls on how to get a baby Clydesdale horse into the backseat for the journey back to their barn.

Roxanne loved family. Over the years she and Dale opened their home to many of the young nieces who wanted to come ride horses for the day, swim in the pool or stay with them for any reason. A day with Roxanne was always going to be a good day. Family holiday parties at her home were always a highlight and you could count on having a slice of her famous Dutch Apple pie.

Roxanne had an adventurous soul. Hawaii was the place she loved the most and where she and her husband spent their honeymoon 52 years ago. She would jump at the opportunity to go back whenever she could, but they also explored the world such as one exciting safari to Africa. When home, she had deep friendships that she treasured, and she will be deeply missed by her Bunco group! Family friends that she spent that last decades with playing cards, camping, fishing were always so important to her. Her family has lost a treasure but now she is a shining star in their sky.

She is survived by her husband, Dale Slaten, brother’s Ray and Roger Deeringer and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations by made in Roxanne’s name to Operation Wild Horse, 605 S Valley Hill Rd, Bull Valley, IL 60098. A celebration is planned for August 18 th for friends and family at their home. Please contact the family for further information.
