Rosemary Aragon Matos, cherished mother and sister, passed away while listening to her favorite melodies, surrounded by her loved ones and their prayers. She passed on July 2, 2026 at the age of 73.
Rosemary was born in Chicago, IL on January 10, 1953, daughter of Hilda Del Valle and Gabriel Aragon. She grew up in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago alongside her eight siblings. While she has now joined her parents, sisters Blanca Del Valle and Evelyn Aragon, and Brothers Gabriel Aragon, Raymond Aragon, and Paul Rodriguez; she is still survived by her younger sisters Ida Serrano, Hilda Santiago Ware, and eldest sister Lydia Del Valle.
Growing up, Rosemary was a phenomenal student. In school, she was exceptional and was particularly gifted in mathematics. The first in her family to attend university, she earned an Associates Degree in administration from DePaul University and was hired by Benders Real Estate on North Avenue and Spaulding. Rose was a lifelong learner- knowledgeable on a wide variety of topics. She was a frequent museum goer and a voracious reader. Learning remained a passion all her days, something she made sure to share with her two daughters.
Rosemary came to know Jesus through her brother Gabriel. Though she believed and feared the Lord, she found it difficult to truly accept that she was loved and forgiven through the work of Christ. She spent many years struggling with the idea and often shared these conversations with her beloved sister Hilda. Over time, she came to embrace the deep love of the Father and the sacrifice of His Son. In March of 2010, Rosemary accepted the Lord’s love completely and considered herself truly blessed to receive his forgiveness and grace. Her deepest desire was for her loved ones to know the Lord, and she spent the rest of her life proclaiming His name.
Rosemary had a loving and empathetic spirit with a thoughtfulness that seemed to know no bounds. Her compassion lent itself to both her loved ones and strangers on the street. Her heart was one of giving. She worked several jobs to provide for her mother, sisters, daughters, nieces, and nephews for many years. She was constantly finding gifts for those in her family and was well known for cards which she filled to the brim with little messages.
Rosemary was a truly loving soul with a heart for others. She was incredibly intelligent, strong, brave, and compassionate. Through her life, we can see the love of Christ exemplified. “Praise be to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of comfort who comforts us in all our troubles so that we in turn can comfort those in any trouble.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. Rosemary will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on July 10, 2026 from 3pm to 9p at Countryside Funeral Homes & Crematory on 950 S. Bartlett Road, Bartlett, IL 60103.
