Rose M. Holzer, nee Kraemer, 90, formerly of Arlington Heights, Wheeling and Chicago; devoted wife (for 45 years) of the late Robert, Sr.; cherished mother of Gary (Robin), Michael (Mary), Patricia (Bruce), Ken (Gail), Frank (Debbie), John (Jeanne), Rosanne (Mike), Robert, Jr. (Tammy) and Dan (Michelle); proud grandma of 26 and great grandma of 13; dear sister of 11 brothers and sisters. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Marie, 10 brothers and sisters and a grand daughter.
Rose was given the gift of endless energy. Her work ethic was only surpassed by her fierce desire to remain independent. Since her husband's job kept him on the road most of the week, Rose had to wear many hats. She was not only the mother of 9 children, she also came from a family of 11 brothers and sisters, which prepared her for life, in an always bustling home. On top of doing endless piles of laundry, daily meals, remaining active (helping coordinate Family Fest and serving as a eucharistic minister) at Saint Joseph the Worker in Wheeling and Saint Philomena in Chicago and her countless other daily duties, she managed to find her "escape" in a job outside of the home. She worked in the men's department at K Mart in Arlington Heights for a few years just to see if she liked it. Then she worked as a customer representative for Liberty Playing Card Co. in Wheeling for many years and then liked being out of the house so much, she continued her career at Tech Web Printing Co. She semi retired from Tech Web at the age of 75 and was asked to be the receptionist at Segerdahl Corporation in Wheeling where she was a valued employee until the age of 80 ! She was a Chicago sports fan but in the summer time she only cheered on her beloved Chicago Cubs. One of her favorite traditions was going to Opening Day with her brother, Dick. She also enjoyed fishing with family on Lake Michigan and going up to Eagle River and relaxing at Fr. Bob's cabin. If you could catch her sitting down, she was never napping she was knitting something for some family member. Her generous personality came out most during Christmas time when she wanted to make sure each child, grand child and great grandchild had a gift under the tree. They do not make them like Rose Holzer anymore. She is truly one of a kind and will be missed by many generations. She leaves her family with many great memories and life lessons.
