Rosalie “Lee” Martens, of Bartlett, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on April 8, 2019. Rosalie was born November 19, 1932 in Chicago. She married Egon “Larry” Martens and being his wife was a great source of joy. Egon was an officer in the Army and his career brought their family to Colorado, Texas, Italy, and many other homes. After retirement from the Army, they lived on Palmer Street in Chicago. She lived in Des Plaines for many years with her daughter Linda (Mitch) Moore until her and Larry moved to Bartlett. Lee was able to help soldiers and their families as a cherished volunteer with the 85th division of the US Army. Lee and Larry had a special winter place at Suntide Island Beach Club in Sarasota, Florida where she would spend hours collecting shells on the beach. She was very proud to tell everyone about her children and grandchildren and always surrounded herself with photos, magnets, and souvenirs that brought her joy.
Rosalie is survived by her children Annette (Pete) DalSanto of Bloomingdale, Carolyn Weyers of Minnesota, Terry (Gloria) Cooper of Florida, Linda (Mitch) Moore of Des Plaines, and Irene (Mike) Hanley of Roselle. She was lovingly known as “Granny” to 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by dear nieces Marcie and Elaine, kind cousin Alice, and special friend Tom Speara.
Her dearly beloved Egon preceded her in death and she often spoke of longing to meet him again.
Visitation is 3 pm – 9 pm Sunday April 14, 2019 at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd (at Stearns Rd), Bartlett. Funeral is Monday at 10:30 am at the funeral home followed by internment at Ft. Sheridan Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Army Emergency Relief Fund, www.aerhq.org, would be appreciated. Guest comments or noted of remembrance would be great appreciated by the family.
