Rosalie Ann Walsh Honel, 87, of Elmhurst, passed away October 27, 2016 after a long illness. Memorial service will be held December 23, 2016 at Mary Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 426 North West St., Elmhurst. Visitation will be from 10:00am until time of Mass at 11:00am. Rosalie was born in Toluca, IL. She married Milton Honel on June 20, 1953; they enjoyed nearly 62 years of marriage. Rosalie was primarily a caregiver for their six children as well as Milt’s father, Frank, when his health deteriorated due to Alzheimer’s disease. She utilized her passion of journal and poetry writing when she turned her caregiving experiences into a book about Alzheimer’s disease. In 1988 Johns Hopkins published her book Journey with Grandpa: Our Family’s Struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She also enjoyed religious activities, reading, music and singing throughout her life. Rosalie was involved in many volunteer activities such as PADS and Meals on Wheels. Rosalie is survived by her children Marian (Jim Wilson) Honel-Wilson, Pat (John) Fogarty, Michael, Martin (Marie), Terese (Richard) Bailey, Cindy (Tim) Webster; 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband Milton, her mother Elizabeth (nee Leonard) and father Leo Walsh, as well as her siblings Elizabeth Quinlan, Eileen Lemmer, Patricia Walsh and Leo Walsh, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to United Parent Support for Down Syndrome, 1070 South Roselle Rd., Schaumburg, IL. 60193 or (847)895-2100.
