Ronald Miller

December 24, 1947 — August 26, 2020

Ronald Miller lived to make people laugh (mostly himself)

On August 26th, 2020, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL, the world lost an incredible man with a fantastic beard and an even better head of hair. Ronald Arthur Miller, 72, was born on Christmas Eve in 1947 in DeWitt, Michigan.

As a thoughtful child with only a dash of mischief in his eyes, he set his sights on higher education. After a few years of bell-bottoms, tie-dye shirts, and hitchhiking, he decided to become an educator. Ron wholeheartedly believed that kids were not only to be taught but to be learned from. He worked with countless children throughout his career and volunteer efforts, making lasting memories that will be looked back on fondly.

Ron was a bona fide father, telling “dad jokes” to his three children even into their adulthood. He became an honorary father to many along the way, always opening his arms and welcoming a spot at the table. Ron’s breakfasts were famous - from his crepes to Dutch Baby pancakes - you weren’t starting your day on an empty stomach. In 2002, he became known as Papa. Ron basked in being a grandfather, devoting his time and energy to his grandchildren (and teaching them fun tricks to drive their parents a little crazy). He loved Halloween and dressing up as a scary clown, gardening, and losing his glasses. In 2014 Ron met his love, Marguerite, and wasted no time marrying her in 2015. They spent countless evenings singing karaoke and laughing with friends, where he showed up Dire Straits with his renditions.

Ron is survived by his loving wife Marguerite, children Sarah Mondragon (Antonio), Emily Lubczynska (Tomek) and Nicholas Miller, and step-children Samantha Walte (Ryan Dixon) and Elliot Walte. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Aiden, Jonah, Satu, Nixon, Kendall, and Cash. Ron will also be fondly remembered by his brothers, William (Linda) and Richard and many nieces and nephews, along with a plethora of friends and dog, Adler. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Alice, and sisters, Judy, Marie, and Kathy.

Ron preferred to have an ongoing celebration of life rather than opt for a funeral. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to: Habitat for Humanity International, 322 West Lamar Street, Americus, GA 31709.
