Rodger Wedding Peterson, 90, of Bartlett, died peacefully August 3, 2016 at his cherished Lake Gerald in U.P. Michigan. Beloved husband of Dorothy (nee Frost) for 68 years; loving father of Bill (Janice), Paul (Jan) and Dianne (Robert Nishikawa) Peterson; proud grandfather of Karen (Dennis Pierce) Peterson, Jason (Susanne), Kristen, Anaïs Peterson and Boomba Nishikawa. Rodger was preceded in death by his siblings, Mildred, Muriel, Gladys and Wilbert.
Rodger was a WWII Navy veteran and an active member of Streamwood VFW Post 5151. “Pa-Pa Pete” (as he loved to be called) was named a “life member” serving 58 years as a member of the Moose Lodge in Elgin. He served as Treasurer and Moose Heart representative, was given the Fellowship Award in 2001, and was a member of their “50 club”. As a former President of the Bartlett Lions Club, he was named a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Club International in 2014 and in 2015 given the Governor’s Appreciation Award for 62 years of dedicated Lions service. Pete was a long standing member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, where he sang in the choir and was president of the council. He served as a trustee on the board for the Village of Bartlett and as a steward captain for his union at Bell Telephone. Earlier in his life, he was a Boy Builder, a member of: the Bell choir, an international choir, and other groups too many to list.
PaPa Pete was, up to the very end, the true life of the party and always had a tale, a song and a smile to offer. He was a lover of music and played Hawaiian guitar, ukulele, harmonica, and drums. As a youth, he was proud to have once performed in the drum and bugle corp for President FDR at the 1933 World’s fair. He was an accomplished vocalist, singing publicly up to the last days of his life. He struck up a conversation with everyone he met, starting heartfelt friendships lasting the spectrum of minutes to a lifetime. To say Pa-Pa Pete loved life would be an understatement! He will be dearly missed by so many.
