Robert Wunnicke

January 21, 1947 — May 26, 2022

Bob Wunnicke was born on January 21, 1947, in Chicago. As a young boy he enjoyed playing baseball and football in the neighborhood with his friends. He proudly graduated from Lane Tech High School. Following the footsteps of his father, he worked as a tool and die maker at Western Electric for many years.
After dating for four years, he married the love of his life Vala on May 3, 1969. They have two children Lisa and Bobby. They moved to the suburb of Bolingbrook and Bob and his father-in-law Mikolay took ownership of a Shell gas station on the corner of Cicero and Diversey. Lisa and Bobby have fond memories of spending time in the office and underneath the cars, while enjoying their favorite sweets and snacks.

In 1978 Bob went on to pursue his dream job of becoming a police officer at Rolling Meadows Police Department. During his career he was a Community Relations Officer, a Sergeant and eventually promoted to Commander. He proudly retired in 2002. Lisa worked summers at the department as a bicycle safety officer and Bobby continues his career there as a Community Service Officer today. Bob’s career at the police department has provided a solid foundation of financial support to his family that will continue throughout the rest of Vala’s life. His legacy is making sure that his family is always well taken care of.

Bob was blessed with four grandchildren: Kyle, Trevor, Claire and Trey. He loved watching them grow up and was always in awe of the amazing things they did. He is so very proud of all of them and always will be.

Bob was an avid fisherman and loved to spend time fishing on Spooner Lake, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Canada with his son Bobby. The family has thousands of memories around these adventures, and we will treasure them.

Bob absolutely loved to golf. He thoroughly enjoyed his almost daily visits to Green Valley Golf Range in Hanover Park where he met many cherished friends that meant so much to him. He also loved to play on the Senior Golf League at Schaumburg Golf Course.

Bob and Vala loved to travel with their friends and were blessed to enjoy many fun-filled trips throughout their retirement. They really loved going on river cruises, enjoying many different countries, gourmet food and drinks and times filled with laughter and good friends.

Although so very sad and difficult, the past two years have been filled with sweet times, loving care and the reminder of family. Vala, Lisa, Tony, Bobby, Kathie, Kyle, Trevor, Claire and Trey provided Bob with whatever he needed to finish his life on Earth with grace and dignity. We know that he is now resting comfortably with those that preceded before him.
