Robert West

Robert A West, Bob, age 94, born in Wisconsin to John and Cecelia West on January 30, 1928. He passed peacefully on April 24, 2022. He was the 6th sibling out of 10, 8 brothers and 1 sister, and ironically her brothers all called her “Sister”. Bob was the husband of the late Betty (Widick). He was the loving father to the late Karen (Dwite) Fernald, Susan (Wayne) Glashagel , Judi (Mark) Storck , Robert Jr, Joanne (Bob) Matusek. He was the grandfather of 17 and great and great great grandfather to many.

Bob grew up in Wisconsin and later moved to Illinois. He had to quit school at a young age to start working to help support his family, which continued throughout his life. He had many different jobs, until eventually owning and operating a number of gas stations. In 1971 West and Sons was established and after 50 years it is still going strong with a fleet of 25 trucks. Bob enjoyed visiting the shop on a weekly basis, to walk the lot checking out all the trucks. He kept current on where the drivers were headed and what trucks were bought or sold. It truly was his life. He was well respected, had incredible work ethics…which he passed down to his children. He was a man of few words, with a huge heart.

Later in life he enjoyed doing puzzles and making sure his grandchildren never left his home without a cup of M&M’s.

He will truly be missed. The next time you see one of his blue West & Sons truck, honk in his honor.
