Robert Wayne Thompson, Sr. of South Elgin; beloved husband of Debbie A. (nee Singer); loving father of Robert W. Jr. (Virginia), Scott, Penny Thompson, Terri (Dale) Schabert, Amanda Thompson and Amelia (Anthony) Kostelny; cherished grandfather of Mariah, Annabelle, A.J., Lori, Brandy, Josh, Nichole, Rachel, Matt, Zoe and Kayla; proud great grandfather of Christopher, Ciara, Adriana, and Roy; dear brother of Donna (the late Jim) Sponholz.

Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in intelligence during the Korean War. He also enjoyed singing with the Bluejackets Choir while in the Navy. Before retiring in 2007 he worked in sales for Chicago Rawhide for over 57 years. He enjoyed gardening and in the early 1980’s won the South Elgin town award for having the best garden. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and fishing and spent many years volunteering as equipment manager for the Elgin Heat Girls Softball Association.

Memorial Visitation Sunday, October 13th 3:00 p.m. until the time of memorial service 6:00 p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 95 S. Gilbert (at Middle St.) South Elgin. Cremation was private at the Countryside Crematory.
