Visitation for Robert Horstmann Salvesen, of Streamwood for 22 years, Friday, January 4, 3:00PM -8:00PM at Countryside Funeral Home 1640 S. Greenmeadows Blvd. Streamwood/Schaumburg. Funeral Saturday, 9:15AM at the funeral home going to St. John the Evangelist Church, mass 10:00AM. Interment will be private.
Robert was the beloved husband of Emily (nee Voglein) for 65 years. Loving father of Robert (Janice), Raymond (Susan), and Roger (Ursula). Proud grandfather of Robert (Jill) Salvesen, Pamela Salvesen, Valerie (Michael) Sawisch, Glenn (Sarah Burress) Salvesen, Mark (Michelle)Salvesen, Jennifer (Greg) Thornton and great grandfather of Madison and Matthew Sawisch. Dear brother-in-law of Irene Voglein and the late John Voglein. Cherished uncle of Pennie (Phil), Judy (Ray), Jeannine (Jim), Jackie (Jim), and Carol (Maynard).
Robert was a WWII Merchant Marine. He was the Hanover Township Senior Committee Trustee, and also participated in Meals on Wheels for the township with Emily for many years. Robert was an avid golfer and bowler until the age of 88. He was the little league coach and commissioner, and the Park District Commissioner in Franklin Park.
