Robert F. (Bob) Graff, 94, was born on January 8, 1930 at Loretto Hospital in Chicago. He died on March 19, 2024. He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth and his father, Hugh. Bob attended Notre Dame Academy on Chicago’s west side and went to St. Philip High School. As a teenager, he developed a peanut and gumball machine route on Chicago’s west side.
He took classes at Loyola University, Illinois Benedictine College and John Marshall Law School.
As a PFC National Guardsman drafted during the Korean Conflict, he was a medical technician in the 131 st Infantry and stationed in Kentucky.
Bob’s first wife was Arlene F. Mandarino who also predeceased him.
They had six children: Karen (Larry) Katuls, Robert (Suzanne), Kathleen (Bob) Frye, Kenneth, Kevin (Amy) and Keith (Marisa) ,15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He cofounded the Roselle Recreation Association and boys basketball in the Village of Roselle.
Bob worked in the insurance industry, most notably for Allstate as a claim adjuster. He later went on to become District claim manager in 4 offices and Casualty Claim Director for the state of Illinois.
Bob later married Marion T. Freund who had eight children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In retirement, he and Marion relocated to Mattoon, Illinois where he was president of the Kiwanis Club. They served their community by installing a Catholic Charities resale shop in Mattoon, delivering Meals on Wheels and administering communion to retirement homes and hospitals. He was an ordained deacon and lector of the Roman Catholic Church.
Visitation will be at Countryside Funeral Home 333 S Roselle Rd, Roselle on Monday, March 25, 2024 from 9:00am until time of prayers 10:30am followed by mass being celebrated at St. Walter Church in Roselle at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton, Illinois.
