Robert Butler

Robert F. Butler of Bartlett, formerly of Hanover Park; beloved husband of Betty L.; loving father of Janice Kathryn (Philip DiGangi) Butler and David Frank (Terri Kimsey) Butler; cherished grandfather of Erika Lynn and Nicole Marie Butler; proud great grandfather of Braden Frank Butler; brother of the late Ronald Butler and Janice (Butler) Galloway.

Bob was born in Keokuk, Iowa on July 31, 1935 to Emmett Frank Butler and Muriel Ruth Lounsbury. He was the youngest child of their three children. He graduated from Newton High School in 1953. He later graduated from the University of Iowa in 1962, with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration . He was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Bob entered the U.S. Navy in 1953. He served on active duty through 1957 and then continued in the Reserves through 1961. Throughout his active duty he served in different detachments of the Special Weapons Unit Pacific (SWUPAC). He was stationed at the Sandia Base near Albuquerque, New Mexico, Lake Mead base near Las Vegas, Nevada, and the Naval Air Station at Moffett Field in San Jose, California. During his duty he rose to the rank of Yeoman 3. He received a Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

Bob married Betty Lou Galloway on Aug. 20, 1960 in Albia, Iowa, and they had two children. They lived in Kansas City, Missouri for eight years, until they moved to Hanover Park, Illinois. They were residents of Hanover Park for 45 years. Bob worked for 32 years at the Ben Franklin Company, as a Buyer and Inventory Control Manager.

Bob was involved in the Sea Scout program of the Boy Scouts when he was young, and later participated with his children in their scouting activities. He played the saxophone in his high school band, and also in the Navy Drum & Bugle Corps. He enjoyed music - particularly jazz, big band, and boogie woogie. He tinkered with electronics, and took pride in grooming the yard. He grew black raspberries, tulips, and roses. He played tennis, and belonged to a bowling league. Bob loved the outdoors, and relaxing by a campfire. Bob, Betty, and their family took many camping trips around the Midwest. Bob and Betty were founding members of the Wee Scots Scottish Terrier collectors club, and also a member of INTO Scotties.

Visitation Friday, April 15th 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Countryside Funeral Home & Crematory, 950 South Bartlett Rd, (at Stearns Rd.) Bartlett. Funeral Saturday 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial Lakewood Memorial Park. Donations to the American Lung Association at www.lung.org would be appreciated.
