Richard L. Lumm

Richard L. Lumm, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many, passed away on Thursday, August 27th, 2026, at the age of 89. Richard was born on Saturday, July 24th, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, where he spent his early years before planting roots in Schaumburg.

Richard found his calling in auto maintenance, dedicating 41 years of service to American Airlines, where his expertise and passion for machinery left a lasting impression on colleagues and clients alike. Before embarking on his career, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, embodying the spirit of duty and commitment throughout his life.

A man of diverse interests, Richard was known for his love of family, old cars, and airplanes. His stories, humor, and wisdom will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lester and Anne Lumm, and his dear son, John Lumm. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Janet Lumm (nee Pettavino), and children, Robert (late Lisa) Lumm, James (Mary) Lumm, Toni (Timothy) Sebastian, Sandra (Michael) Whelan, and Barbara (Scott) Gepp. Richard was the proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom enriched his life immeasurably.

Visitation will be held at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory of Roselle in Roselle, Illinois, on Monday, August 31st, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, September 1st, 2026, at 10:00 am at the same location, where family and friends will come together to honor Richard's remarkable journey. Burial will follow at St Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery in Palatine, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital, www.stjude.org, or the Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarriorproject.org, reflecting Richard's altruistic spirit and enduring legacy of care for others.
