On Thursday, April 23rd, 2026, Richard Holmes, a beloved brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend, passed away at the age of 83. Born on May 21st, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, Richard spent much of his life bringing joy and generosity to those around him.
Richard was the devoted son of the late Harold G. Holmes and Florence M. Holmes and the cherished brother of Roger Holmes (Sharon). He was preceded in death by his brother Phillip Holmes. Richard was a loving uncle to Eric, Justin, Jeff (Carrie), Colin (Liz), and Alex (Megan Green) Holmes and Kyrsten (Marc) , Nicholas and Forrest (Ari) and a proud great-uncle to Lily, Charlotte, Zoe, Ernie, Jacob, Millicent, Analiese, Jaxson, Norah and Samira. His family and friends will remember him fondly for his warmth and kindness.
Throughout his career, Richard dedicated himself to his work in the maintenance department at Lake Park High School in Roselle, where he was respected and appreciated by colleagues and students alike.
Richard was a man of many passions. He was an active volunteer at the Food Pantry at the Roselle United Methodist Church and cherished his time tinkering with electronics, often taking them apart just to put them back together again. A lifelong enthusiast of ham radio, Richard found joy in connecting with others near and far.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Richard's life at a visitation at Roselle United Methodist Church in Roselle, IL, on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Elmhurst, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Roselle United Methodist Church in memory of Richard's enduring spirit and dedication to his community.
Richard Holmes will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
