Reverend Guiney

Reverend John J. Guiney; born February 12, 1932. Entered into Eternal Life May 9, 2014. He came from a large family, the son of the late Aible and Mary, nee McCarthy. He had a love for all people, especially the elderly, sick and those in nursing homes. Ordained June 3, 1961 in the diocese of Washington D.C. He served as a missionary at the Boniki Leper Colony in Africa from 1961 – 1982. He then went to the Joliet Diocese where his assignments included being the associate pastor at St. Matthew (Glendale Heights), Sacred Heart (Lombard), St. Isidore (Bloomingdale) and St. Walter (Roselle). He “retired” in 2002. He lived by the motto, “ be brief, be blunt and be gone”.
Visitation Monday May 12th 4:00 pm – 9:00 pm at St. Walter Church 117 W. Maple Roselle. A wake service will be held at 7:00 pm. Funeral Tuesday lying in state 9:00 am until time of mass 11:00 am. Interment private at St. Isidore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the SMA Priest Retirement Fund, Boniki Leper Colony or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
