Remedios Ruiz Magpantay, 82, of Hoffman Estates, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2022. Remedios Ruiz Magpantay was born on October 28,1940 at Tuguegarao, Cagayan in the Philippines. Her parents are the late Maria de la Cruz and Theofilo Ruiz. She graduated from Central Escolar University Philippines with a Bachelor of Science, major in Pharmacy. She was married in court to the late Eustacio Magpantay on April 6, 1962, and in church on May 6, 1962. Remy worked as a pharmacy technician for many years at Cook County Hospital and Veterans Hospital after immigrating to Illinois. She is known for her keen understanding of medication as she practiced pharmacy in the Philippines prior to immigrating to the USA in the early 1970s.
She loved to keep herself in the latest style of clothes and jewelry. Her favorite color was yellow, so one would often see her in bright yellow clothes. Remy liked her accessories, especially her gold jewelry. She appreciated her stones, especially jade, as it signifies prosperity.
Remedios loved to cook and prided herself in making the best pansit bihon and kare kare. She often made her famous rum cake that she enjoyed sharing during Christmas, office birthdays or special occasions to co-workers and friends. Remy made the best bread pudding and macaroni salad with raisins. She passed down her recipes to her children and grandchildren.
She instilled the importance of education to her children and to always do well. Remy and her late husband believed that education was the greatest gift they could give their children. She attended all the graduations of her children and grandchildren. Her son, Ric, acknowledged that Remy had sacrificed for her children and husband to have a better life. They are all here in this country achieving the greatest WISDOM.
Remedios and her late husband had traveled to many places including Michigan, Indiana, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, Canada, Hawaii, and Philippines. She had many great memories about her life with her late husband and often shared those with her children and grandchildren. Her son, Ray, affectionately expressed that "Remy is the most wonderful mother that anyone can ask. She is not perfect, and she knows it. She tried her very best and succeeded. We love her with all our hearts." Her youngest daughter, Ethel, declared "Remy gave her all to take care of her husband and children. We will always be grateful for her love."
In her last few months, the health struggles were real. Her eldest daughter, Edita, reminisces "Losing her independence takes a lot of adjustment on her part. She tried her best to be patient." Her daughter, Edna, reflects that Remy's desire to keep living was remarkable, but when she was ready, she was able to let go." Her last calls to her immediate family were to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. We know she died in peace and at her own time.
Remedios was the beloved wife of the late Eustacio Magpantay. She was the loving mother of Edita (Napoleon) Urgena, Edna (Michael) Magpantay-Monroe, Ric (Katherine) Magpantay, Ray Magpantay, and Ethel (Caesar) Cabalfin. Remy was the cherished grandmother of Anthony (Jonelle) Urgena, Christiane (Long) Tran, Zachary (Mariel) Urgena, Timothy Urgena, Donovan Monroe, Breanna Magpantay, Isabella Magpantay, Christian Ric Magpantay, Faith Cabalfin, Hope Cabalfin, and Gabriel Cabalfin. Remy was the proud great grandmother of Jason. She was the dear sister of Socorro (the late Antonio) Santos, Emmanuel (Lina) Ruiz, Napoleon Ruiz, and Romulo (Connie) Ruiz. Remedios was the fond aunt of many nieces and nephews.
