Ray Saylor

March 4, 1942 — July 29, 2024

In loving memory of Ray Saylor

March 4, 1942-July 29, 2024

Ray Saylor was an affectionate, loving, and hard-working individual who had a heart of gold. Born in Harlan County, Kentucky, Ray lived an adventurous life. At 13 years old, he won second place and a gold watch singing Ballad of Davy Crockett in the Morris B. Sachs Amateur Hour competition. Ray had a deep love for music and would carry that love, singing tunes at karaoke, block parties, and in car rides. Throughout his life, Ray loved to travel. From hunting in the mountains in Montana to fishing in the lakes in Canada, and golfing every chance he had, Ray had a love for the great outdoors.

He moved to Chicago, IL where he fell in love with the field of plumbing, serving the Chicagoland area for over 50 years. For 30 of those years, Ray ran his family-owned business, Drain Man Plumbing & Sewer, in Bartlett, IL. He impacted his family, teaching his sons to become licensed plumbers. His friendly demeanor and care for others made him form connections in the community and many lasting friendships along the way.

Ray was surrounded by a loving, blended family. He deeply loved each and every one of them and took great joy in the time he spent with them. Ray will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Jo Saylor; his children, Ray Jr. (Lynn) Saylor, Mike (Tricia) Saylor, Jason Saylor, Daniel Golter, Jenna (Jose) Miranda, Tim (Courtney) Golter, and Kristy Rae Saylor; his grandchildren, whom he loved so much, Tawney (Mike) Cremer, Chris Saylor, Mikey (Amanda) Saylor, Charlie and Gabriel Kook, Chase, Braelynn, and Olivia Golter; his great-grandchildren Bennett (aka Benji to Ray) and Cameron Saylor and Caden Cremer; his brother Eddy Ray and sister Pat (Harold) Rogers; his mother-in-law, June Angsten; as well as his brother-and-sister-in-laws, Sharon (James) Stephens, Steve (Brenda) Holt, Tim Angsten, Tom Angsten, Jim (Elsa) Angsten, Nancy (Eddy) Resendiz. He was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Faye Saylor, his daughter Sharon Saylor, his mother Blanche Saylor, and his brothers Kenneth Hayes and James Stephens.
