Randall R. Block, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and respected business owner, passed away peacefully at his home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Randy was born in Columbus, Wisconsin, where he spent his early years. His family later moved and settled in Illinois.
It was there that he met and married his wife Cathy Block (née Engelhardt) with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. Together, they were blessed with five sons: Jonathan (Traci), Thomas (Christine), Scott (Margaret), Daniel (Katie), and Gregory (Megan). He went on to become the proud and loving Papa to Taylor, Jack, Laney, Ryan, Teagan, Quinn, Brennan, Sam, Kennedy, Norrine, August, James, and Charlotte.
In 1979, Randy had acquired LH Block Electric Company, where he served as the owner and operator. He was able to fulfill his dream of “working himself out of a job” when he successfully passed the business on to his son’s.
Randy was known for his warm smile, contagious laugh, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends at “Yogi”, the family’s summer place. When he wasn’t there, he could usually be found attending his son’s athletic events, camping on the shores of Lake Michigan with his extended family or hosting impromptu pizza parties with the kids and grandkids. And in his final two years, Randy would look forward to his weekly Sunday visits with his sister Brenda and husband Frank where they shared stories and memories from their childhood.
Randall R. Block will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate Randy’s life. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 6th, from 2PM to 8PM at Countryside Funeral Home in Bartlett. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday morning, October 7th at Holy Family Catholic Church in Inverness with visitation beginning at 9:30AM until the time of Mass at 10:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cal’s Angels Pediatric Cancer Foundation in his memory.
