Prince Chandetka, also known as Colonel Pheng Chanthadouangsy, passed on at age 82 on Thursday May 18, 2017. He was preceded in death by Kone (brother), Phone (brother), Noi (sister), Savannikone (daughter), and Eric (grandson). He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Phookhao Chandetka, his sister Theng, his sons Ott (Hong), Keck (Menchie), and Ko, his daughters Vieng (Ying Thavisouk), Vee (Vieng Keo), his 15 grandchildren, and his 14 great-grandchildren. He was also a fond uncle, cousin, and friend. Prince was born and raised in Laos. He was a colonel in the Lao military and served for over 20 years. He fought in the Vietnam War and took refuge in the states with the help of the U.S. Military. He put his children through private schools and went to school himself and received a Ph.D. Prince had a passion for writing and giving speeches. He found a place to call home in the Village of South Elgin, where he resided with his wife for over 30 years. He served as a leader, a mentor, and a Laotian-American community advocate. He retired from Elgin Sweeper where he worked as a Senior Designer. Visitations will be held Friday May 26, 2017 from 4p-7p. Funeral and cremation service is Saturday May 27, 2017 from 2p-5p.
