Paul Michael Vargas

Paul Michael Vargas, 61, of South Elgin, passed away at home on February 26, 2026.

Paul was a loving father to Joseph (Jennifer Heck) Vargas and Shannon (Benji) Meier, and a proud grandfather to Quinlynn, Abram, Olivette, Judah, Camden, and Easton. He was a dear brother to Connie (Ron) Ganow, Chris Vargas, and Stephanie (Ken) Skippergosh. Paul was the cherished son of Scottie Barnes and stepson of the late Tom Cahill and Jim Barnes.

Paul found great joy in camping and traveling, especially visiting his favorite place, Gulf Shores, Alabama; a destination he hoped to one day call home in retirement. He was a devoted sports fan who never missed cheering on his beloved Chicago teams, especially the Cubs and the Bears, and he was an enthusiastic NASCAR follower. Many fond memories were made with Paul at the grill, cooking outdoors while enjoying whatever game or race was on.

A true handyman at heart, Paul could often be found working on projects around the house, tinkering with his motorcycle, or fine-tuning his guitars. He took pride in fixing, building, and creating, always ready to lend a helping hand.

Paul will be remembered as the life of the party and for his contagious laugh. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. We take comfort knowing he is reunited with his beloved dog, Eddie.

A memorial visitation will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm at Countryside Funeral Home and Crematory 95 S. Gilbert Street (at State Street) South Elgin.
