PAUL J. CORD (1930 -2025)
Paul J. Cord, of Hanover Park, IL passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025 at the age of 95.
Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, the youngest of three children. He began working at 5 years old delivering groceries for the corner store before holding such jobs as pin setter at a bowling alley and then road construction before joining the Marines. At a USO dance, Paul met and fell in love with Ruth, his wife of 67 years. They married and had six children.
After marrying, Paul completed his schooling and worked as an aircraft mechanic. First for Capital Airlines in Washington, DC until it was acquired by United Airlines and he was transferred to Illinois where he worked until his retirement.
Paul quickly found a hobby in tracing his family's genealogy. He spent countless hours writing letters, researching and traveling to meet relations in person. He also generously shared the information he had to help others with their own search. Always interested in something new, Paul learned how to use the 'new personal computers' to do research, document his findings and communicate with others through email and then Facebook.
Devout Catholics, Paul and Ruth attended daily Mass together at St. Ansgar's in Hanover Park and dedicated their time to supporting the parish through hospital ministry, serving as sacristans and assisting other parishioners.
Paul loved all animals and diligently fed any bird, squirrel or stray cat that appeared at his door.
Paul moved to
TheVines Senior Homes
in Elgin where he enjoyed making new friends, winning at bingo and listening to live music every Sunday.
Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth and his daughter Julie (Petsinger).
For Paul, family always came first and he will be greatly missed by his children: Paul Jr. (Sandra), Mary, John, Jill and Jennifer (Jeff Provisor) and son-in-law, Jeff Petsinger. Paul is the proud grandfather of Daniel (Sheila) Cord, David (Marina) Cord, Sarah, Joseph and Rachel Petsinger and great-grandfather of Theresa and Colin Cord.
The family is especially grateful to
