Paul N. Abts, born April 29, 1951, in Oak Park, Illinois, departed this world on December 4, 2024, due to complications from a stem cell transplant. Paul was the beloved son of Belgian immigrants, Norbert and Josepha Abts, who clearly passed down their strong work ethic and love for life.
For 49 glorious years, Paul was married to his high school sweetheart, Sharon, proving that true love and high school romances can, in fact, go the distance. Together, in Bartlett, they raised four fantastic children: Matthew (Brooks), Melissa, Douglas, and Hilary, all of whom inherited his charm, humor, and love for life. He was the proud grandfather to Astra and Idris, who he adored spoiling at every opportunity. Paul was also the cherished brother-in-law of Gail Bassi and the fun-loving uncle of Christine Ligler and Michael Bassi.
Professionally, Paul started as a high school teacher, shaping young minds before transitioning to a jet-setting career as a corporate account manager for British Airways, Etihad, and Emirates. He worked hard, traveled far, and made friends everywhere he went. Above all else, Paul was a family man. He wore many hats: coach, chauffeur, confidant, and mentor to name a few. Whether cheering from the sidelines, offering sage advice, or just being a loving husband and father, Paul did it all with heart and humor. Paul’s larger-than-life spirit and endless energy will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love and laughter lives on.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
