With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our husband, father, dear friend and cherished community member, Dr. Parthasarathi Ghosh, who departed peacefully in the early hours of April 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Asansol, West Bengal, to Prashanta and Manjuri Ghosh, Parthasarathi spent his formative years in Ballygunge with his two brothers and three sisters playing cricket, soccer and becoming a great lover of history and literature.
He attended Saint Lawrence High School and developed a keen interest in physics but eventually decided to honor his grandfather’s legacy by pursuing a career in medicine.
He earned his medical degree from Calcutta Medical College and went on to complete his postgraduate studies and residency at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
In 1976, he emigrated to the United States, where he completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Cook County Hospital, later specializing in Endocrinology. Throughout his distinguished career, he also served as a faculty member at Rush Medical College, where he took immense pride in mentoring and educating future generations of physicians.
Even after retiring from Cook County Hospital in 2003, Dr. Ghosh remained deeply committed to serving others. He continued his work as the Medical Director at Stateville Correctional Center, retiring fully in 2011 after years of dedicated service.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Parthasarathi had a deep appreciation for life's simple joys. He was passionate about sports, music, and film, sharing these interests with his eldest daughter through countless conversations about classic movies and their beloved Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears.
He was also a gifted cook who delighted in preparing meals for his family, especially his youngest daughter, who cherished his Bengali, Thai dishes as well as the various cooking experiments learned from YouTube.
He touched many lives with his humor, warmth, and curiosity. A generous and engaging friend, he connected easily with others, combining a brilliant mind, quick wit, and a deeply empathetic heart.
Parthasarathi is lovingly remembered by his wife of 49 years, Dr. Geeti Ghosh, and his daughters, Poulomi (Pouli) and Ananya (Soumi). To his family, he was a constant source of strength, patience, and unwavering and selfless devotion.
Their lives are richer for having shared his love and they are immeasurably saddened by his loss. To paraphrase one of his favorite films: “Men like our father cannot die. They are with us still, real in memory as they were in flesh, loving and beloved forever.”
He is also survived by many dear friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. He will be remembered for his humility, generous spirit, and the enduring friendships he built throughout his life.
May his soul attain eternal peace. We pray that the Almighty grants strength and courage to his family to bear this profound loss, and may his blessings continue to guide and watch over his loved ones.
To honor his memory, his family invites you to spend time doing something you love with someone you cherish, reflecting on the joys and connections in your lives.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional doctors, nurses and staff at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Holy Cross Medical Center, and Alden Estates of Barrington. Their compassionate care and kindness provided not only medical support but also peace and dignity during his final days.
